Discovering

(Or rediscovering) Hamlet - Nicki Greenberg's beautiful new version, thanks to the fabulous Snarkattack, who invited me along to see Nicki talk about the creative process behind the book.

Eating

  • An enormous serve of bangers'n'mash and a nourishing pint of Kilkenny at the Town Hall one dismal Tuesday evening.
  • A "Chachi" - chianina meatball sandwich - another brioche donut and some amazing chocolate tart at Beatrix, which Essjay has reviewed.
  • A lazy Sunday lunch at The Crimean. The Polish hunter's stew (bigos) was just the thing to revive me after a chilly bike ride.
  • Generous piles of fried food with oodles of chillies and sichuan peppercorns at Sichuan House
  • Succulent suckling pig at Liberteene.
  • An array of bright, zesty flavours at Chin Chin, where the only problem was having to choose only some of the items from what looks to be a menu that is all hits, no filler.

Sorting, or opening a can of worms

I spent yesterday cataloguing the DVDs1.

Given that I self-identify as a non-acquisitive person, there are a lot of them.  An embarrassing number of them.

They are now in neat stacks beside the table (TV, film, Bluray) tripping us up and waiting for some cleared shelf space. I fear they will still be there in January – cleared shelf space is a possibility, but it involves the ladder and the loft and that looks to be too much of a chore right now.

Whatever happens to them, I have set aside a few to get me through the post-Christmas period of bleagh:

  • Breaking Bad – Season 1 (will have to start from the beginning again, as we only got through a couple of episodes before starting Band of Brothers, which took over)
  • Chuck – Season 1 (and 2, if my Amazon order ever arrives)
  • Curb Your Enthusiasm – Season 6
  • Flight of the Conchords – Season 2 (again, watched a couple of early eps so will start over)
  • Homicide – Seasons 1 and 2
  • Lost – Season 1 (I think I’m in denial that the final season is about to start, so this will help extend the Lost love)

Just to break up some of the series marathons, there will be various No Reservations episodes and some People Like Us.

Who knows when we’ll finish The World At War…

1. I was confined to the flat yesterday as our Foxtel upgrade was booked in for “between noon and 5.00pm”. And, yes, of course he came at 4.35.

  • Ah, Yes Minister – such fabulousness! You’ve just prompted me to add it to my brand new Foxtel magic watching device.

Enjoy your Christmas viewing (survival is my aim…)
